The method involves transmitting priority information with network nodes (404C) prior to a shared-contention transmission opportunity, where the priority information indicates a priority level of a frame that the nodes intend to transmit on a communication medium during the shared-contention transmission opportunity. One of the nodes is assigned to a contention window within the transmission opportunity based on the transmitted priority information. A size for the contention windows is determined based on the transmitted priority information.
