PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for detecting wire breakage or short circuiting in a strain gage. SOLUTION: Differences in outputs between Ch. 1 and Ch. 2 are calculated in step S11, and temporal moving averages of the differences are calculated in step S12. It is determined in step S13 whether the moving averages of the differences are not less than a first described value. When the moving averages of the differences are not less than the first prescribed value, it is determined in step S14 whether moving averages of differences between Ch. 3 and Ch. 4 calculated by the same process as the S11 and S12 are not more than a second prescribed value. If the second prescribed value is not exceeded, a counter is incremented in step S14. In step S15, it is determined whether a counter value is not less than a specified value. If the specified value is met or exceeded, load measuring parts on the Ch. 3 and 4 sides are determined to be abnormal and actions such as alarming are taken in step S16.
