PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner in which energy saving characteristics are improved. SOLUTION: The air conditioner comprises an exhaust heat recovery device 3 for recovering exhaust heat in a heating medium, a heating medium passage 5a in which the heating medium from the exhaust heat recovery device 3 flows, an auxiliary heater 7 provided in the heating medium passage 5a to heat the heating medium, an absorption type refrigerating machine 9 connected to the heating medium passage 5a to be driven by the heat of the heating medium, a refrigerant passage 11a in which refrigerant from the absorption type refrigerating machine 9 flows, an indoor machine 13 to which the refrigerant is supplied by the refrigerant passage 11a, a heating medium temperature detecting means 15 for detecting the temperature of the heating medium passing the heating medium passage 5a, a refrigerant temperature detecting means 17 for detecting the temperature of the refrigerant passing the refrigerant passage 11a, and a control unit 19 for controlling the driving of the auxiliary heater 7. The control unit 19 controls, upon start, the driving of the auxiliary heater 7 in accordance with the temperature of the heating medium detected by the heating medium temperature detecting means 15. When the temperature of the refrigerant detected by the refrigerant temperature detecting means 17 reaches prescribed temperature or lower, the control unit decides a starting to finish and controls the driving of the auxiliary heater 7 in accordance with the temperature of the refrigerant detected by the refrigerant temperature detecting means 17 after the end of starting.
