摘要 PURPOSE: A bidirectional wavelength division multiplexing optical communication system is provided to increase a channel density in a maximum wavelength band. CONSTITUTION: A bidirectional wavelength division multiplexing optical communication system utilizing an optical amplifier includes a first optical transmitter/receiver(500) for transmitting a forward direction optical signal composed of a plurality of channels allocated by a predetermined wavelength interval and for receiving a backward direction optical signal composed of a plurality of channels allocated with frequencies between each of the channel wavelengths, a second optical transmitter/receiver(700) for transmitting the backward direction optical signal and receiving the forward direction optical signal, an optical fiber(800) for connecting the first and the second optical transmitter/receivers(500,700) and being a transfer medium of the forward and the backward direction optical signals and an optical amplifier(600) installed on the optical fiber(800). The optical amplifier(600) interleaves the channels of the forward direction optical signal received in bidirection through the optical fiber(800) and the channels of the backward direction optical signal in accordance with wavelengths and amplifies the interleaved optical signals. The optical amplifier(600) splits the amplified optical signals into the forward direction and the backward direction optical signals in accordance with the wavelengths and transmits the split forward direction and the backward direction optical signals through the optical fiber(800).
