DEVICE AND METHOD FOR COUNTING ERROR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for counting errors which enable the accurate count of the number of errors of a prepit signal in an embossed part. SOLUTION: The device for counting errors is provided with a playback means 22 to play back an optical disk 1 and a count means 29 to count the number of errors of the prepit signal on the basis of the output of the reproducing means 22. The device detects that the reproducing means 22 starts the reproduction of the embossed part, and then starts a count operation of the count means 29 according to the detection. The device detects that the reproducing means 22 reproduces a predetermined section of the optical disk 1 after the start of the count operation, and then stops the count operation of the count means 29 according to the detection.
