PURPOSE: A getter container and getter shield assembly for a cathode ray tube is provided to maintain brightness of the cathode ray tube by minimizing the amount of getter material spattering toward the shadow mask and the amount of getter material evaporating toward the neck. CONSTITUTION: A getter container and getter shield assembly, comprises a getter antenna(6) an end of which is coupled to an electron gun; a getter container(30) containing getter material, and which is coupled to the other end of the getter antenna; a getter shield(34) having a diameter formed approximately the same as the diameter of the getter container, and which is arranged above the getter container so as to serve as a lid for the getter container; and an extended piece(38) arranged at the getter antenna side so as to connect the getter shield and the getter container. The getter shield includes a first plane portion disposed on the plane same with the top surface of the getter container, and second and third plane portions formed left and right sides of the first plane portion in such a manner that second and third plane portions are tilted upward at a predetermined angle with respect to the first plane portion.
