PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester-based conjugate fiber giving a fabric which has high stretchability, good soft touch and excellent dyeability, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This polyester-based conjugate fiber is characterized by combining a polytrimethylene terephthalate-based component with a polylactic acid- based component in a side-by-side type or eccentric sheath-core type form and having a total crimp percent (TC) of >=15%. And the method for producing the polyester-based conjugate fiber is characterized by combining the polytrimethylene terephthalate-based polymer having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.7 to 1.2 with the polylactic acid-based polymer having a mol.wt. of 50,000 to 150,000 in a side-by-side type or eccentric sheath-core type form.
