摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser irradiation apparatus and an underwater object detecting apparatus, which have been improved in performance for detecting an object by maintaining a constant amount of light entering the water. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with a polarization plane rotating unit 2 for rotating a polarization plane of a laser light generated by a laser oscillator 1, an irradiation direction computing unit 4, and a rotation amount computing unit 5. The irradiation direction computing unit 4 computes an irradiation direction of the laser light scanned by a laser scanning unit 3 toward a water surface. The rotation amount computing unit 5 generates a rotation amount instruction signal to be given to the polarization plane rotating unit 2 based on the optical position relationship between the irradiation direction and a polarization plane inherent to a laser light outputted from the laser oscillator 1. The rotation amount instruction signal is given to the polarization plane rotating unit 2 and thereby a polarization plane of the laser light is rotated so as to keep the angle constant between a polarization plane of the laser light made incident on the water surface and the water surface regardless of scanning positions.
