The present invention relates to art decorating of textile articles and can be used in making cloths, tablecloths, napkins, handkerchiefs, canvases and others. The method offered for patterning the artificial textile articles includes the step of placing such an article on a hard, preferably plane, surface, and step of patterning the surface of the article by outlining its contour directly on the surface of the article with a heated instrument. In conformity with the invention the article consisting of preferably one layer of an artificial textile material is patterned by placing it directly on the hard, preferably plane, surface made of a transparent material, and its patterning is carried out directly on the surface of the article with cutting out a pattern simultaneosly. After the multi-layered applique, which made of an artificial textile material of different textures and/or colors and cutted out beforehand, is secured on the patterned article. The fixation of each layer of the applique is implemented separately and in consecutive order, melting the rims of the applique with a heated instrument over the whole contour and/or in selected places.
