PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid inappropriate printing on a disc-like recording medium. SOLUTION: The lengths LX and LY in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction of a disc-like CD-R mounted on a disc tray 23 are measured. Difference between the measured lengths LX and LY in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction is then calculated and printing is performed if the difference is not larger than a specified value (e.g. 5 mm), otherwise printing is not performed. Consequently, inappropriate printing on the disc-like CD-R can be avoided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
