PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a supervisory system provided with a wide area supervisory camera for imaging the entire supervisory range and an object camera for tracing an object and producing a high definition object image by extracting the object from the image of the wide area supervisory camera and cutting out the object by using the image from the object camera. SOLUTION: The supervisory system extracts a rough shape of the object from the image received from the wide area supervisory camera by using a background differential system or the like and traces the object image to correct the object image so as to match the image from the object camera. Since this correction provides a rough shape, the image as an initial contour is further corrected to an accurate shape by using Snakes or the like. The Core Profile or Main Profile of the MPEG-4 is used to encode the cut out image. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
