PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for measuring surface hardness which simply evaluate the surface hardness of an object to be measured and an adapter for measuring the surface hardness which is mounted on an existing pressure apparatus and simply measures the surface hardness of the object to be measured. SOLUTION: A measuring element 2 is a member for pressing and contacting the object G to be measured. A detection apparatus 5 is an apparatus for detecting a load acting from the object G to be measured to the measuring element 2. An evaluation apparatus 6 evaluates the surface hardness of the object G to be measured based on a temporal change of the load detected by the detection apparatus 5. The adapter 3 is an apparatus for detachably connecting the measuring element 2 and the pressure apparatus when the surface hardness of the object G to be measured is measured. A support member 32 is provided with holding parts 32a, 32b for holding the detection apparatus 5. An elevating shaft 44 constitutes a part of the pressure apparatus and is a member for vertically moving. A male thread 44a for engaging with a female thread 32g of the support member 32 is formed at a lower end of the elevating shaft 44. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
