PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission system capable of maximally utilizing free resources of a network and to provide a node apparatus thereof and a communication band utilizing method. SOLUTION: Each of nodes #A to #G is provided with a function of capable of mapping a packet signal to a path on the SDH/SONET. Then part time traffic is transmitted by an asynchronous packet signal such as IP data. Further, a part time traffic interface section 43 containing the part time traffic is provided with a packet routing function. Moreover, connecting time slots remaining adjacent nodes at a protection line PL side forms a concatenation path. The packet signal is transmitted via the concatenation path formed in this way.
