PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling method in the case of a breakdown of a marine refrigerating unit, wherein damage to cargo inside a marine container is reduced or prevented when the unit is damaged and comes into an unrepairable state. SOLUTION: In this cooling method in the case of the breakdown of the marine refrigerating unit equipped in the marine container, an exhaust port 31 provided in a marine refrigerating unit 10 of a normal container 1A of a temperature not more than an internal set temperature of the marine container and an intake port 32 provided in the marine refrigerating unit 10 having the breakdown of an abnormal container 1B are connected by a duct 40, and cold air is led into the abnormal container 1B side from the normal container 1A side to cool the abnormal container 1B.
