PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact scanning optical device immune to environmental fluctuation (temperature change) and suitable for high-definition printing. SOLUTION: The scanning optical device, in which luminous flux radiated from a light source means consisting of a semiconductor laser is guided to the deflection surface of a deflecting element through an anamorphic optical element having a diffraction part, and the luminous flux deflected by the deflecting element is formed into an image on the surface to be scanned through a scanning optical element having a refraction part so as to scan the surface to be scanned; is characterized in that the change of a focus in a main scanning direction associated with the temperature fluctuation of the refraction part of the scanning optical device is corrected by the power change of the diffraction part due to the wavelength fluctuation of the light source means caused by the temperature fluctuation.
