Disclosed here is a method of making an article, the method including forming a plurality of layers of a material in a preset pattern, wherein at least one of the formed layers is an expandable layer that increases in volume during or prior to forming the next layer on the expandable layer; and fusing the plurality of formed layers to provide the article.
