PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical component which is small in size, has low loss and low cost and has a mode converting section and to provide a manufacturing method of the component. SOLUTION: A plurality of approximately spherical shaped lens sections 6-1 and 6-2, whose refractive indexes are gradually made higher than the refractive index of a core 3 along the direction from a tip part 4-2 to a tip part 4-1, is arranged with a prescribed interval, diameters and refractive indexes in the core 3 of the part 4-1 of an optical fiber 2 having a low comparative refractive index differenceΔ. Thus, a small sized optical component 1 having a mode converting section 9-1, in which modes are changed along an arrow mark direction 5, is realized at the part 4-1 of the fiber 2. Since the section 9-1 is constituted of assemblies that are equal to two or a larger number of lens sections 6-1 and 6-2, the section 9-1 has a symmetrical structure and no polarization dependence and an ultra low loss optical component is realized.
