<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a message including kanji characters according to the level of a player. <P>SOLUTION: A video game device 10 includes a CPU 36, and the CPU 36 displays a message related to the progress of a game on a monitor 34. In displaying a game message, the CPU 36 compares the player level set by a player or a user with the display level value included in the message data, and selects either a kanji character string or a hiragana character string according to the comparison result to thereby display a message. That is, when the player level is under the display level value, a message using the hiragana character string is displayed on the monitor 34.
