PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact bearing anomaly detecting apparatus for inexpensively and highly accurately detecting anomalies of a bering supporting a rotator and to provide a bearing anomaly detecting method, an image forming apparatus, and a disk drive apparatus. SOLUTION: The bearing anomaly detecting apparatus 1 previously stores a reference stopping time to be a criterion of bearing anomaly determination in a reference stopping time storage part 3 at detection on the presence or absence of anomalies of the bearing of a rotating device 10 in which the rotator is pivoted and rotated at the bearing. The stopping time of the rotator between a specific rotating speed and the stopping of rotation is measured by a stopping time measuring part 2. The presence or absence of anomalies of the bearing is determined by a stopping time comparing part 4 by comparing the measured stopping time measured by the stopping time measuring part 2 with the reference stopping time. It is therefore possible to perform noncontact detection on anomalies of the bearing before the rotating device 10 becomes irrotational by a simple constitution and inexpensively and highly accurately detect the presence or absence of anomalies of the bearing within a wide range of application by the compact apparatus.
