<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic code reading device for accurately reading a code, and for ending the reading of the code in a short time without generating any fear of collision with a billet, and for achieving miniaturization, and for suppressing manufacturing costs. <P>SOLUTION: This automatic code reading device for picking up the image of a label 16 attached to an end face 12a of a billet 12 to be successively conveyed on a conveyance base 14, and for automatically reading a two-dimensional code written in the label 16 is configured to decide the focal point of an area sensor camera 28 for picking up the image of the label 16 by using a laser range finder 26 as a device for measuring its distance until the end face 12a of the billet 12, and to move those laser range finder 26 and the area sensor camera 28 only within a plane which is parallel with the side face of the conveyance base 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
