Hydrocarbon charges, esp. 3-30C petroleum products, are converted into lower mol. wt. products contg. appreciable amts. of olefins by thermal hydrocracking with an amt. of H2 sufficient to give an H2 concn. of >=20 mole % in the effluent, at a pressure of 5-70 bars (pref. 10-45 bars), at >625 degrees C (pref. 678-1000 degrees C), with a residence time of 0.5 secs., pref. 0.05-0.5 secs. (the higher the temp., the shorter the residence time). The formation of paraffins is restricted by the short residence time, and the high H2 concn. reduces coke formation. Recycle of co-products is possible.
|
