<p>1296958 Variable capacitors INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 10 June 1971 [15 June 1970] 19955/71 Heading H1M In a hermetically sealed variable capacitor for terminating a coaxial transmission line, the plates consist of interfitting concentric cylinders or spiral windings, coaxial terminals 3, 15 continuous with the transmission line conductors and spaced by insulator 20 being electrically connected to stator plates 18, 19 through metal mounting rings 16, 17, and moving plates 6, 7 movably by control member 4 to overlap plates 18, 19 respectively being electrically connected by support plate 8 to provide two seriesconnected capacitors, a bellows 5 completing the hermetic seal between member 4 and the capacitor housing. The housing may be evacuated or filled with inert gas. Pillars 9 insulate support plate 8 from the control member. In the fully retracted position the movable plates lie within the axial length of insulating sleeve 2 minimizing stray capacitance.</p> |
