1,273,641. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 23 July, 1969 [22 Aug., 1968], No. 37042/69. Heading H2E. A female electrical contact element is stamped from sheet metal stock so as to be substantially uniplanar and comprises contact springs 2, 3 which are resiliently deflected in the plane of the element when male contact 62 is inserted. The cross-sectional areas of and the angle between first portions 4, 10 and second portions 6, 12 of the springs are so chosen that the second portions are deflected about their junctions with the first portions and the first portions are deflected about their junctions with the base 1 when the male contact is inserted. The female contact element is retained by a boss 24 inside a housing H which has its open side adjacent to a printed circuit board P1. The element is retained on the board by post 18 soldered to wiring on the board. Other connecting posts 16, 26 may be used for soldered or wrapped joints or severed if not needed. Other embodiments are described in which the orientation of the housing with respect to the board is varied (Figs. 5, 6 not shown) or in which the male contact forms part of a similar element in a housing H (Fig. 7 not shown).
|
