1405075 Corrugating felt D S O TEXTIL 17 Jan 1973 2529/73 Headings D1K and D1S Apparatus for simultaneously rotating a drum 10, having longitudinal radial grooves 11, and corrugating sheet material on the drum, for use in a machine for manufacturing non- woven floor coverings, comprises drive cogs 25, 25a and a ramming tool 24 interconnected by a frame 26 which is slidably mounted on a guide 22 and pivotally mounted by a connecting rod 27 to a crank 14 on a main crank shaft 13 rotation of which causes the frame 26 to reciprocate on the guide 22 resulting, in use, in simultaneous reciprocation of the cogs 25, 25a and tool 24 in such manner that the cogs engage drive surfaces fast with the drum to rotate the drum and tool 24 engages in the grooves 11 to corrugate the sheet material. The shaft 13, Fig 1, drives an auxiliary shaft 19 through a chain 18. The shafts 13, 19 have cranks 14, 15 and 21 respectively. The eccentricity of the cranks 15, 21 is equal to a quarter of the pitch of the grooves 11. In motion, the cogs 25, 25a describe approximately elliptical trajectories, the major semiaxis of the ellipse being equal to the eccentricity of the crank 14 and the minor semiaxis being equal to twice the eccentricity of the cranks 15, 21. The drum 10 is provided with a notched flange 28, Fig 3, at each end thereof. The diameter of the flanges is slightly larger than the diameter of the drum 10. The flange notches 29 Fig 4 have an angular pitch equal to that of the grooves 11 and have a depth slightly larger than the stroke of the tool 24. In use, the cogs 25, 25a enter alternately into the flange notches to rotate the drum 10 during both the ramming of the felt and the return stroke of the tool 24. A spring 46, Fig 3, is positioned between a slide block and the frame 26, a spring 47 between the frame 26 and a bushing 48 and springs 39, 40 between the frame 26 and a clamping tool 38. Counterweights 31, 32, 33 are mounted on the rod 27 and the shafts 13, 19, respectively. In apparatus for forming a floor covering, Fig 4, felt 34 is unrolled from a roll 35 by draw rollers 37 and an unwinding roller 36 and is rammed into the grooves 11 by the tool 24, the tool 38 preventing previously formed corrugations from leaving the grooves. An adhesive backing 41 is applied by a doctor blade 42 and is dried by infra-red heaters 43 having reflectors 44. The floor covering is removed by rollers 45 and a draw roller 46, the first roller 45 being liquid-cooled. The rollers 45 are driven from the shaft 13 by chain drives. |
