1439249 Stackable cartons EPEX 15 Nov 1973 [15 Nov 1972 29 Dec 1972] 53068/73 Heading B8P A carton of double faced corrugated cardboard has a stacking ledge formed by a tab 8a, Fig. 2, with a portion 8b secured to a wall 3 and upstanding locating portions 7 formed by a tab on the wall 3 secured to the outside of a wall 2. Fold lines 9, 10, 11 are inclined slightly so that a taper is given to walls 2, 3 enabling one box to enter the top of a lower box when stacked. In another construction, Fig. 8, the tab is slit horizontally at 12 the lower part 8c being secured flat against the wall 3 and the upper part 8b being creased to form a triangular stacking panel 8d. In a variation (Fig. 4, not shown) the panel 8d is rectangular and in a further construction fold lines 10a, 11a forming the triangular panel 8d extend the full depth of the tap and the slit 12 is omitted. Again, if circular articles are to be packed in the carton the triangular panel may have an additional central crease to approximate more closely to the shape of the articles. If the carton is to be collapsible two opposite sides have an inclined crease (23, Fig. 12, not shown) and the corner ledge is rectangular in plan (see Fig. 14) and is pushed into position after the carton has been erected. In a modification, Fig. 17, the stacking ledge is formed by a triangular panel 25 extending from the side 2 and secured to side 3 by a tab 26 passed through an aperture 27 in side 3. |
