The locking device is intended to prevent theft of a trailer after it has been uncoupled from its tractor. The locking cap (1) fits over the trailer pivot (2), and turning the key causes the latch pin (3) to engage a recess in the pivot, thus preventing the trailer from being coupled to another tractor. The latch slides back and forth in a horizontal plane during the (un) locking operation.
