<p>A safety barrier for roadways, bridges, tunnels etc. carrying motor vehicles, consists of a set of uprights, bolted down onto e.g. a concrete base, carrying horizontal buffer members. The uprights have holes through them, near the top, for cables which are not attached to the uprights. The cables act as energy absorbers in the event of an impact, and are tensional between separate upright anchored securely in concrete, preferably reinforced concrete, or other suitable strong medium, a number of different anchorages being illustrated. The cables may incorporate springs, or springs may be located between the cables and their anchorages.</p> |
