Consolidation of subterranean formations - by injection of a resin soln. contg. inert solids and soluble solids

Incompetent subterranean formations are consolidated by (a) dispersing a resin in a carrier liq.; (b) adding a mixt. of inert solids coated with the resin and uncoated solid particles comprising a mixt. of hdyrocarbon wax and a polymer, the wax/polymer particles being insoluble in the carrier liq. at ambient temp. but oil-soluble at the formation temp; (c) injecting the resulting mixt. into the annular space between the formation and a gravel-packing solids retainer; (d) hardening the resin; and (e) dissolving the wax/polymer particles. The process produces a highly permeable hard solid mass which controls loose sands in oil-, water- and gas-bearing formations without significant loss of permeability.
