A process for producing alkyl-, conbalkyoxyalkyl, aryl-, heterocyclyl- or phenylaceto-thionamides by reaction of corresponding nitriles with a substantially equinolon amount of H2s in a closed reaction vessel at elevated temperature in the presence of a basic catalyst, the molon proportion of catalyst to nitrile being 1:20 to 1:100, is improved by employing a catalyst:nitrile proportion of 1:5 to 1:100 (pref. is not >1:30) when using an aryl-nitrile, heterocyclyl-nitrile or phenylacetonitrile. Conversion to the desired thionamides is high and the product are stable in the presence of the small amounts of catalyst used. Of the products, thionacetamide can be used as an intermediate for 5-carboxanilido-2,4-dimethyl-thiazole, a compound with broad microbicidal activity, and N-morpholino-thionoamide is of use as a fungicide.
|
