<p>Solar energy trap incorporates a heat pump based on air circulating through a chamber with permeable baffles of black metallic tape absorbing heat received through transparent double glazing above the chamber. The air abstracts the heat from the baffles and passes it to liq. heat exchangers located in the return passage of the air loop. The ends and the base of the air circulation system are enclosed by a thick layer of thermal insulation, e.g. foam, mineral wool, vermiculite, etc. The air circulation rate is controlled by a variable speed centrifugal accelerator in the cold leg of the air loop. High efficiency is obtd. because the air can effectively remove heat from both faces of the panels which absorb the incident heat, compared with traps having the fluid passing over the upper face only of a base panel in the absorbant chamber. Air circulation removes use of liqs. from the external chamber and confines the liqs. to piped systems which are less prone to leaks.</p> |
