Compsns contain a polysaccharide capable of being adsorbed differentially on gastro-intestinal mucosa, of mol. wt. >106 and having 1-2 sulphate gps. per mono saccharide unit and an acceptable labelling agent capable of detection. Suitable polysaccharides and Na salts of potato starch amylopectin of mol. wt 6.3 x 107 or 12.5 x 107 contg. 1.6 and 1.8 sulphate gps./glycose residue resp. (e.g. sodium amylosulphate) and the labelling agent is a dye esp. methylene blue or a radionuclide esp. technetium 99.m,I-125 or I-131. Compsns are in form for oral or rectal administration and the labelling agent is detected usually by gastroscope when it is a dye or by isotope scanner or scintillation camera when a radionuclide; gastric ulcers are shown up by the adsorption of polysaccharide the edge of the ulcer.
|
