Title compds. I(A = O, S, imino, alkylimino, alkenylimino; R1 = alkyl, Ph, substituted Ph) were prepd. by treating 1-alkoxy-2-halogenoethyl isothiocyanates with R1AH(III) in the presence of an acid acceptor. Thus, 1,2-dichloro-1-ethoxy ethane was treated with NH4SCN to give 93% 1-ethoxy-2-chloroethyl isothiocyanate, which was treated with PhOH in the presence of K2CO3 to give 4-ethoxy-2-phenoxy-2-thiazoline. Elimination of EtOh from the latter compd. with p-toluenesulfonic monohydrate gave 81.6% 2-phenoxythiazole.
