In this surface heating system, the heating pipes are arranged in the immediate neighbourhood of the surface. Hence they can be laid after the screed layer has been completed. In order to produce good heat conduction between the heating pipes and their surroundings, and to guide them during thermal expansion, the heating pipes (1) are laid in grooves (6) which taper in a wedge form towards the surface and which are closed by filling pieces (2). For better distribution of the heat, the heating pipes are covered with a nonwoven fabric (7) of metal fibres. To equalise the large thermal expansion, particularly with plastic pipes, indentations (10) which are filled with the non-woven fabric (7) are provided at the curves of the heating pipes. The nonwoven fabric of metal fibres is compressible and in spite of this conducts heat well. <IMAGE>
