PURPOSE:To form a titled medium which has good skew and wear resistance without spoiling flatness by consisting the same of a nonmagnetic base and a magnetic layer provided thereon, and maintaining the rate of thermal shrinkage in the longitudinal direction of the base at a specified value or below and the moisture content over the entire part at a specified value or above. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer contains a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, a polyurethane resin and a low mol.wt. polyisocyanate. Polyester, for example, polyethylene terephthalate, ionomer, polyimide, polyamide, a copolymer of vinyl chloride, etc. are usable as a base. If skew is <=17musec, a normal image screen is observable and therefore the rate of thermal shrinkage of the base is required to have <=0.15%, which can be obtained by subjecting beforehand a biaxially stretched polyester base to a heat treatment. The moisture content of a magnetic recording medium is required to be >=0.35wt%, which is effectively realized by a method for applying moisture to the magnetic tape by exposing the same to the atmosphere of high temp. and high humidity, a method for dewing by feeding the tape into the atmosphere having a temp. difference or a method for dipping the same in water. |
