Viscosity measure using a device comprising a measurement enclosure 1 connected by means of a capillary 6 to a transfer cell 3 partially filled with mercury, whose opposite end is linked via a capillary 7 filled with mercury to a receptacle 4 for collecting mercury at a known pressure. Method consisting in injecting the fluid to be measured into the enclosure, adjusting its pressure to a value P1, measuring the pressures P1 and P3 and the quantity of mercury Q delivered by the capillary 7 and calculating the viscosity of the fluid according to the equation: <IMAGE> eta Hg being the viscosity of the mercury, k the constant of the capillary 6 and K the constant of the capillary 7. It makes it possible to add to the measurements of thermodynamic characteristics of a fluid, the measurement of its viscosity using a slightly modified conventional apparatus. <IMAGE>
