In a device for lifting U-shaped staples (10), a tongue (11) for engaging under the said staple (20) is equipped with lateral guide surfaces (14) extending in a longitudinal direction, the extension of which is adjoined by a stand part (12). This tongue (11) is provided with a tongue part (13) of trapezoidal cross-section and with an adjoining stand part (12) of rectangular cross-section and, on the surface of the trapezoidal tongue part (13) which is opposite to the sliding surface (15) on the paper side, with a convex cross-section. This convexly designed surface, which acts as a support (17), is adjoined by the stand part (12) to which a housing (23) is secured by means of a screw (26). <IMAGE>
