The invention relates to a drainage method for turfed ground. The method of the invention includes the use of a classic irrigation system combined with a subirrigation system, a layer of topsoil 3a intercut with draining trenches 4 filled with granular material and a filtering mass 5 comprising a main drain 7, 8. According to the invention, the method includes a surface layer 1 of filtering material forming a culture substrate for the vegetation 2 the thickness of which is between 5 and 15 cm. The filtering material will, preferably, be made up of improved sand or of expanded hard materials. The invention will find its application especially in the use of sports grounds particularly for football, rugby, hockey, golf, racecourses and the like. <IMAGE>
