PURPOSE:To receive even scattering echoes in directions other than the direction of a backscattering echo by providing the second oscillator for reception around the first oscillator corresponding to a probe. CONSTITUTION:A probe 10 includes the first oscillator 11 for transmission and reception having a circular principal face and the second oscillator 12 for reception which has a principal face adjacent to the periphery of the first oscillator 11 and is formed into an annular shape. Thus, an ultrasonic pulse 80 transmitted from the oscillator 11 is reflected on an acoustic discontinuous face 31 in a living body 30 as an object to be examined, and a backscattering echo 85 is received by the oscillator 11. Scattering echoes 90 scattered in directions of a prescribed angular range based on the direction of the backscattering echo 85 are received by the oscillator after a delay. Consequently, a B mode tomographic image of good resolution is reproduced because ultrasonic echoes received by the probe 10 have a wide angular range. |
