Shipping cask and/or storage container for radioactive substances, having a flangeless container casing, a cover inserted in the container casing, a cover support on the container casing, a sealing device and a press-on device. The container casing and the cover consist of cast iron, e.g. spherolithic cast iron or cast steel. The sealing device is designed as a round cord seal or round wire seal which is supported on a collar. The press-on device is constructed as a wedge mechanism. The round cord seal or round wire seal resting on the collar can be pressed onto the container casing by the wedge mechanism. <IMAGE>
