PURPOSE:To improve an efficiency of a design editing by reading a picture pattern designated by an input means of a picture conte pattern stored in a pattern memory, displaying a picture conte image on a desired area laid out on a display means and outputting by an image output means. CONSTITUTION:When a square plate forming a picture conte is designated by an input means 3, a display control means 2a recognizes a size of the square plate, and automatically sets a display rate of a picture conte pattern. Then, when a selection command for displaying a required pattern of the picture conte patterns inputted from the input means 3 on a display means 4 is performed, the display control means 2a retrieves a pattern memory 1, transfers the required pattern to the display means 4 to display. By repeating this operation, a picture conte image is formed and displayed. Herein, when a command for outputting a layout and the picture conte image by the input means 3 is performed, a control means 2 extracts a raster data constituting the layout and the picture conte image to output to a recording paper by an image output means 5.
