PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain an accurate and sharp heat image, by simple constitution such that a large number of minute cavities changing in effective emissivity to the surface of a matter and forming a heat image corresponding to a distribution image of effective emissivity. CONSTITUTION:A hot image generation apparatus is formed of a material having low emissivity as compared with a black body, for example, aluminum matter 28 and a large number of minute cavities 30 changing in effective emissivity corresponding to an image are provided to the surface of said apparatus. Each of cavities 30 is formed into a cylindrical shape and constituted so as to change effective emissivity by changing the ratio of the size (d) and depth (e) of the opening part thereof. For example, the depth of the cavity group 30A corresponding to a tank is mader large than the cavity group 30B corresponding to a background to enhance effective emissivity. By this method, because the heat images of the tank and the background are formed corresponding to the distribution image of effective emissivity, an accurate and sharp heat image can be obtained.
