In a dishwasher, having a washing container which can be loaded via a door arranged at the front, and having a water-softening device consisting of a salt container and an ion exchanger, the salt container having a filling nozzle which is guided into the washing compartment through a side wall of the washing container and whose filling opening bears a closure element constructed as a salt addition element, it is proposed for a more user-friendly design that the closure element consists of a lid which can be locked against the filling nozzle and is constructed to receive at least one salt cartridge, and that a mandrel or the like is provided in the region of the filling nozzle to open the salt cartridge.
