The invention relates to a troughed chain conveyor with a double-stranded chain which is particularly suitable for transporting abrasive bulk materials. For the purposes of receiving and guiding the chains in the conveying strand, the trough is provided laterally with pocket-shaped widenings. The result achieved hereby is that the chains lie outside the conveying cross-section and hence the trough wall and chains are protected against wear caused by the jamming of coarse particles between the chain and the trough wall. A free space between the outer wall of the pocket and the chain permits tolerance-induced oscillation of the chain, without wall contact or wear. Additional scraping knives on the chain links prevent clogging of the pockets by fine particles. Particularly suitable for hot operation is an embodiment with outwardly displaced trough side walls arranged separately from the material guide plates. The two parts are connected only by spacers arranged at certain distances apart.
