The invention relates to a training appliance for the legs of a person undergoing training, which appliance has a carriage which can be loaded against upward movement on a carriage guide and on which rests the back of the person undergoing training. In order to make the upward movement of the carriage easier in the initial phase, it is proposed that the carriage (5) be equipped in the space below its inclined guide (3, 4) with alternating discs (19, 20) or with plug-in weights (26), to which means are assigned so that in the initial phase of the upward movement of the carriage (cf. 34), the resistance to upward movement is less than the subsequent loading. <IMAGE>
