The hydraulic system has a pump (10), driven, for example, by a diesel engine (13), which feeds hydraulic fluid to loads via directional control valves (22 to 24). The injection pump (14) of the diesel engine (13) is influenced with the aid of a pressure-actuated adjusting cylinder (15), on which the pressure produced in a control line (16) to raise the speed of the diesel engine acts. This pressure is prepared by the interaction of a control piston (96 to 98) and a pressure-regulating valve (41), these valves being influenced by the control pressure drop at the load. Only when more hydraulic fluid is required at the load is a corresponding adjustment of the pressure-regulating valve performed to increase the adjusting pressure, thereby in turn increasing the rotational speed of the pump. Since the sensor for the control pressure drop is designed as a separate piston (96 to 98), particularly good stability of the control circuit is achieved. <IMAGE>
