In this forgery-proof badge, official stamp or licence or inspection plate for motor vehicles, identification data (2) which are only visible as a result of the refraction of light are embossed into a support (1) of transparent material, the surface thereof being damaged. The support then has a light-reflecting layer (3) on the back which provides the necessary refraction of light to make these identification data visible. The production of these identification data, which are only visible as a result of the refraction of light, is, especially as regards the production of the embossing stamp necessary for the purpose, characterised by so many virtually non-reproducible parameters that forgery of the badge, official stamp or plate can be wholly or at least partially ruled out thereby. <IMAGE>
