PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head chip having high strength by forming the thin film of a nonmagnetic gap material only on the front gap part of the surface of the magnetic head which faces the gap and is subjected to mirror polishing, then heating cores to a prescribed temp. and joining the cores. CONSTITUTION:For example, an MnZn ferrite core is grooved and an amorphous Co alloy film is formed thereon. Glass is packed into the grooves and the surface of the core which faces the gap is finished to a specular surface by lapping. A groove for a winding is worked to one of such core carriers and the other is held intact, then an SiO2 film which is a gap material is formed only on the front gap face. After these cores are butted and assembled, the assembly is held for 30min at 450 deg.C to join the cores.
