The device for attaching and tensioning a blanket on a cylinder of a printer may be protected against mishandling and inadvertant opening. Furthermore, the forces due to the tensioning of the blanket must be conducted so that the frame does not absorb anymore the total traction. To this effect, a tensioning roller (2) comprises a locking member (28) which is pressed automatically by a cam (32) into a locking position, or an opening position during an appropriate rotation of the tensioning roller. The locking member (28) provided with a rib (30) is received in a groove (26) against a face of a rectangular recess of the tensioning roller (2) and is supported by spring elements (36). The cam (32) acts on the rear part of the locking element. The frame (42) of the blanket (4) is hooked to a nose (24) in the recess of the tensioning roller (2), where it is guided by a stop fillet (37) and blocked by the locking element (28). The frame (42) is radially arranged with respect to the tensioning roller (2) and is maintained at a certain distance therefrom so that the blanket is applied, upon tensioning, against a rib and then against the surface of the tensioning cylinder (2).
