PURPOSE:To test the low-temperature start of an engine even in a room- temperature test room by unitizing the atmosphere in a storage box, the engine in the storage box, and equipment which cools the periphery of the engine into one. CONSTITUTION:The storage box 2 where the engine 1 is put is provided and a cooling unit consisting integrally of an air processing machine 8 which dehumidifies and cools the inside of the storage box 2, a brine cooling machine 11 which produces low-temperature brine for cooling the engine 1 and its periphery, a brine tank 10 connected to this cooling machine 11, and heat exchangers 17-20 which are connected to the tank 10 and cool the engine 1 and respective cooling elements around the engine 1 is provided. Then, the storage box 2, the engine 1 in this storage box 2, and the cooling unit are connected and the low-temperature start of the engine 1 is tested. The engine 1 is started and start performance data on the engine 1 at respective low temperatures are measured by a dynamometer 4.
