摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the number of effective tracks by providing a difference between an inner peripheral side and an outer peripheral side, with respect to the deformed amount of an elastic body expressed in terms of the number of tracks on a medium, when an actuator is abutted against the elastic body in both ends of the mobile range of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:When the actuator of a magnetic disk device is abutted against the elastic body, the number of tracks required for softening the impact force applied to the magnetic head due to a runaway is in inverse proportion to an allowable angular acceleration at the time when the actuator runs away, and in proportion to the square of the angular velocity at the time of a collision. The allowable impact force is smaller in the outer peripheral side 12 of a medium than in the inner peripheral side 12, therefore, it is necessary that the number of impact softening tracks of the outer peripheral side is more than that of the inner peripheral side. It is because the relative speed 13 of the magnetic head and the magnetic recording medium is larger in the outer peripheral side, and also, the deflection 14 of the medium is larger in the outer peripheral side. In such way, the number of impact softening tracks can be minimized by distributing the number of tracks required for absorbing the impact force caused by the runaway, to the number of tracks so that is becomes the inverse number of a ratio of the allowable impact force between the inner peripheral side and the outer peripheral side, and the number of effective tracks can be increased.
